Did you know there is an open source archive manager that you can use legally for free? No trial mode, no nag screens. If you don't want to pay for WinZip or another commercial product use 7Zip. It is highly rated. I use it. Find a download link to current version at the Zip site.
7Zip handles many types of compressed archives that other zip managers ignore. For example, 7Zip will work with popular Linux formats such as .tar, .gzip and .bz. It also supports a proprietary format, 7z, which may be smaller that others. Unless you are sending files to someone who also uses 7Zip I would stick to the common formats for compression - on Windows, that's the .zip format.
